Project

Pedal Power Program (PPP)

Description

The goal of this project is to develop a feasibility study in order to engage best practices for greater access to healthy activities like biking and also to develop a model to provide bikes to economically disadvantaged youth and the skillsets to maintain their bikes.

Outcome

Two students worked with local Allegheny College alum Roger Willis, of Meadville, and Professor of Environmental Science and Sustainability Richard Bowden, to research the feasibility of developing a Youth and Young Adult Bicycle Program. Students examined other similar programs, and developed plans for an organizational structure, youth participation, bicycle procurement, repair operations and supplies, safety training, and program needs. Based on this background, the project is now taking form, under the umbrella of Family, Children, and Community Association (FCCA), which has agreed to host the effort, tentatively known as the Pedal Power Program (PPP).
