Project

Pathways to Homeownership

Description

The rising cost of rent and the shrinking availability of rental units have created a pressing need for alternative pathways to housing stability. Homeownership improves the quality of life for individuals, allows them to build generational wealth, and strengthens the local economy. However, many residents believe homeownership is beyond their reach due to financial barriers, insufficient credit, or a lack of understanding about the home-buying process. This program seeks to change that narrative by empowering individuals with the tools and knowledge needed to make homeownership a reality. At the core of the initiative is a Pre-Purchase Homeownership Workshop that will educate 10–50 participants on budgeting, credit repair, and the home-buying process. Students will collaborate with local banks, realtors, and other key stakeholders to ensure the workshop provides practical, actionable insights.
they will engage directly with local businesses, banks, and realtors to secure ongoing professional support for the initiative. Students will also lead a community marketing campaign to raise awareness about the workshop, targeting a diverse audience, including employees at our local businesses, and college students who may be looking to transition into homeownership after graduation.

Outcome

Outcomes of the program will include the successful delivery of the workshop, transition of participants into counseling sessions, and tangible progress toward homeownership for several individuals. Additionally, the program will foster stronger collaboration between students, local businesses, and community stakeholders, laying the groundwork for sustained support and future initiatives as we plan a continued series of workshops.
