Project

FCCA – Bike Program

Description

Our first goal is to introduce children in the 3 to 5 year age groups to cycling through the use of “Balance Bikes” that don’t require the challenging aspect of training wheels. These bikes will be utilized in a rotating manner as they are rented by families. We will be planning events in the FCCA and outreach efforts at downtown events such as First Friday where we can showcase our project. The second goal is to provide bicycles to youth in need. We will partner volunteer bicyclists with youth who are not likely to be able to acquire a bicycle due to financial constraints. Volunteers will take used bicycles and refurbish them with identified youth who will then keep the bicycle.

Outcome

The focal point of a dedicated space in the FCCA downtown building on Chestnut street where the participants can work with the volunteers to learn to refurbish the bicycles.
