Project

BASIC Clinical Trial

Description

The Meadville Medical Center is one of 16 hospitals across the country participating in a clinical trial to reduce surgical site infections among patients. Dr. Colantonio, the trial Principal Investigator, is training student research assistants to conduct all the data collection and data entry for the trial. Students are engaging the community by collecting samples that have the potential to advance the project and ultimately enrich the community through the future application of the trial results.

Outcome

Enrolled participants into the study and began data collection. Continued collaboration with project Principal Investigators at Dartmouth University and the Mayo Clinic, including weekly updates as well as sharing unique challenges associated with conducting a clinical trial at a rural community hospital.
