Project

Baldwin-Reynolds Botanical Garden History Project

Description

The goal of this project is to review the grounds of the Baldwin-Reynolds House and all identifiable historic traces (former walkways, old growth plants, buildings, etc.) to determine the former layout of the grounds when the museum was a private home, to review materials of an archival nature from the Historical Society, primarily the Reynolds family papers, for any traces of gardening efforts on the grounds, and finally to create a report including a timeline of sorts that will serve as the basis of a plan for future efforts to develop the grounds into a public arboretum.

Outcome

Created, disseminated, and collated community surveys that asked about the public’s desired use for the grounds of the Baldwin Reynolds House grounds. Additionally, researched and compiled Crawford County Historical Society archival records on the botanical composition of the 19th century Baldwin Reynolds House grounds.
