Project

Mapping the Impacts of Blight across Crawford County

Description

The goal of this project is to establish the groundwork that will inform Crawford County and its partners as they begin the creation of policies and programs aimed at tackling blight across the county. The research being conducted is building upon prior studies regarding the impact of community blight while expanding the topic to rural landscapes and small towns.

Outcome

The goal of this project, as described by our community partner (the Crawford County Planning Office), was to establish the groundwork that will inform Crawford County and our partners as we begin the creation of policies and programs aimed at tackling blight across the county. Project outcomes included the preparation of a research-based report about best practices for addressing blight in rural areas (in addition to an urban one). This report included recommendations for how to build a county-wide blight database that includes data on rural blight. The review of existing research and recommendations included in this report were incorporated into a grant application prepared by the Crawford County Planning Office.
